Navigating Disney’s DAS: Strategies for Big Groups

Navigating the parks with Disability Access as a large group requires a clear strategy to ensure no one gets left out of the magic

The best way to handle Disney’s Disability Access Service (DAS) with a large family is to purchase Lightning Lane Multi-Pass. Use it for the family members who exceed the DAS limit and coordinate return times so you can ride together.

Because Disney strictly limits DAS to the registered guest plus up to 3 additional companions (a maximum party of 4), larger groups cannot all register under a single DAS pass.

Layering DAS and Lightning Lane

To ride together, you will need to sync your virtual wait times. Designate a “point person” to manage both systems in the app:

Book the Lightning Lane First: Have the non-DAS family members book their Lightning Lane Multi-Pass for a specific attraction first. This locks in their 1-hour arrival window.

Time the DAS Return Reservation: Once the Lightning Lane window is set, the DAS holder should request their return time. Because DAS return times have no expiration window once they start, you just need to wait until the DAS return time becomes active inside the other group’s Lightning Lane window.

Scan In Together: Meet up at the attraction’s Lightning Lane entrance and scan in together.

DAS Alternative Approach

The Standby Line

If purchasing Lightning Lanes for the rest of the family isn’t an option, you can split up and meet at the end of the line:

• The non-DAS family members wait in the standard standby line.
• The DAS group requests a return time that will mature around the same time the standby group reaches the front.
• Speak politely with a Cast Member at the front entrance; they can often assist in timing the groups so you merge right before boarding the ride vehicles.

DAS Swapping Rules

The 4-Person Group is Fixed: You must select the 3 companions when setting up the DAS profile, and they typically cannot be swapped out for other family members from ride to ride throughout the day.

Rope Drop Strategy: Take advantage of the first 30 to 60 minutes of park opening (“rope drop”). Standby lines are short enough that your entire family can usually walk right onto several rides together without using DAS or Lightning Lanes at all.
