Wearing the Dress: Confidence at Disney for Plus Sizes

I belong to an awesome facebook group for Plus Sized Disney folks, and there’s a common phrase there meant to encourage people lacking confidence, that it’s okay to wear a cute dress and feel good about themselves on their vacation. The Most Magical Place on Earth is not a place to feel self conscious – it’s a place to feel good about yourself and the fun day that you’re having.
Knowing that not everyone who reads this belongs to that same group, I wanted to impart that wisdom on a wider audience. You ABSOLUTELY can and should “wear the dress”.

There are ways to ensure comfort on a full park day in a dress. I speak about this extensively in this blog post. I thought I’d take some time to highlight some of the places I get my parks clothes. I receive a LOT of compliments on my “‘fits”.

Dresses

Dresses from Halara are always going to get my vote, because they are equal parts comfortable and flattering. Their dresses are amazing for building Disneybounds around, and have a lot of re-wearability.

Old Navy has a decent plus-sized section. They are one of my go-to options. Seasonally, they can vary pretty broadly. It can be hit-or-miss depending on your hopes/goals. Last year I built a Disneybound of Cinderella in this simple Chambray dress from Old Navy. I felt cute for the entire day. I’ve lost 30lb since then and I still think this was one of my cutest park days last year.

Amazon is always a reasonable go-to. My most complimented parks dress came from Amazon (pictured below). I’ve curated a list of some Plus Sized Dresses on Amazon that would work for park days. As always, I recommend putting a pair of bike shorts under the dress!

It took me YEARS to realize that it’s okay to want to, and choose to look cute on a theme park day. For some reason, I think the idea of wearing a skirt on a roller coaster was always off-putting to me. I’m so glad I decided to embrace my cuteness and “wear the dress” during a couple of business theme park trips last year, because my vacation wardrobe has so much more variety now!
